Volkswagen uses Megamos ID48 transponder chips on models up to around 2016 — Golf V/VI/VII, Polo, Passat B6/B7/B8, Tiguan Mk1. The ID48 system is well-understood and handled on-site. Newer VW models from 2017 onward use the Megamos AES (ID47/AES) system, which requires a more involved EEPROM-level procedure for all-keys-lost scenarios. The latest VW ID series (ID.3, ID.4) uses a digital key system over the MQB platform. We carry VAG-group OBD tools and all VW key blank profiles for UK-market vehicles.

My VW Golf key fob buttons have stopped working — what should I do?
First, try a new CR2032 battery. If that doesn't restore the remote functions, the fob body may be cracked internally (common in worn Golf keys) — we can replace the fob shell and re-pair it. If the car won't start, the transponder chip has lost its pairing and needs re-programming to the ECU, which we do on-site.
Do you cover VW Transporter and Crafter vans in Leeds?
Yes. VW Transporter (T5, T6, T6.1) and Crafter are regular commercial call-outs. The T6.1 uses proximity keyless entry — we carry the programming equipment. T5 uses ID48 — straightforward. Crafter shares the Mercedes Sprinter platform from 2017 and uses a corresponding key system. Van keys start from £100.
Is a VW ID.3 or ID.4 key replacement different?
VW's ID-series uses the MQB Evo platform with a digital RFID-based key card system. Programming requires the VW ODIS diagnostic software at dealer level — we carry a compatible interface. ID-series all-keys-lost is more involved and costs £220–£300. Call us with your exact VIN and model year and we'll confirm scope before travelling.
Can you programme a second key for my VW while I still have one?
Yes — and it is significantly cheaper than a replacement. Adding a second VW key while the original is present costs £90–£150. If the original is later lost and we have to do an all-keys-lost job, cost rises to £160–£250. We can come to your Leeds home or workplace the same day in most cases.
Does a VW key replacement cover all functions — remote locking, boot release, alarm?
