Renault Key Technology — What We Work With
Renault uses a unique Hands-Free Card key system on Megane II (2002–2008) and Megane III (2008–2015) and Clio III (2005–2012) — a credit-card format RFID key that uses an ID46-derived Renault-specific chip requiring UCHx (Under-dashboard Control Unit) synchronisation. Later Renault models (Clio IV/V, Kadjar, Captur II, Zoe) moved back to standard remote keys with ID46 chips and OBD-level programming. The Zoe uses a keyless entry system shared with the Megane E-Tech platform. We carry Renault UCH tools and OBD interfaces for all generations.

Renault Car Key Questions — Answered
How much does a Renault Megane card key replacement cost in Leeds?
Renault Megane card key (Megane II or III Hands-Free Card) replacement costs £110–£170. This includes the card blank, cutting, and UCH synchronisation. Megane IV and newer use a standard remote key: £85–£140. Prices confirmed over the phone.
Can you replace a Renault card key without a dealer?
Yes. Renault dealer card key replacement costs £250–£380. We use Renault-specific UCH synchronisation tools to programme card keys on-site. All-keys-lost on a card-key Megane requires reading the PIN from the UCH module — we carry the adapters for this.
I lost my Renault Clio III card key — how do I get in and start the car?
Without the card, the Clio III will not start — it uses the card RFID chip for both door access and engine immobiliser. You'll need a replacement card cut and programmed. We can do this at your location in 50–65 minutes. If you have a spare card, present it when you call — having a working spare reduces the time and cost significantly.
Do you cover Renault Zoe EV key replacement in Leeds?
Yes. The Zoe uses a standard Renault remote key on the ZE50 platform — not a card key. Programming is via OBD. The Zoe's EV drivetrain doesn't affect the key system. Cost: £150–£220 for a keyless entry Zoe key.
Can you replace a Renault Trafic van key in Leeds?
Yes. Renault Trafic is one of the most common vans in the Leeds commercial area. It shares the PSA/Stellantis X82 platform with the Vauxhall Vivaro and Nissan NV300, using an ID46-based key system. Van key replacement starts from £90.
What is the UCH in a Renault and why does it matter for key replacement?
UCH stands for Unité de Commande d'Habitacle — Renault's under-dashboard body control module. In card-key Renaults, the UCH stores the key code and controls synchronisation. All-keys-lost jobs require reading the stored code from the UCH EEPROM before a new card can be programmed. We carry the tools to do this on-site.
How long does a Renault card key replacement take?
Card key with at least one working spare: 45–55 minutes. All-keys-lost requiring UCH read: 60–75 minutes. Standard remote key (Clio IV+, Kadjar): 40–55 minutes.
Do you cover Renault Captur and Kadjar across Leeds?
Yes — Captur and Kadjar are common South and West Leeds SUV call-outs. Both use standard ID46 remote keys with OBD programming. Captur: £85–£140. Kadjar: £85–£140. Response across all Leeds postcodes: 25–45 minutes.
