Seat Key Technology — What We Work With
Seat uses Megamos ID48 transponder chips on all models up to approximately 2016 (Ibiza 6J/6F first-gen, Leon 5F first-gen, Ateca KH7 early). Newer Seat models — Ibiza KJ (2018+), Leon KL (2020+), Arona KJ (2018+) — use Megamos AES (ID47) encryption requiring EEPROM-level procedure for all-keys-lost. Cupra Formentor and Born use the AES system. We carry the same full VAG EEPROM and OBD tooling used for VW and Audi, covering all Seat generations sold in the UK.

Is a Seat key the same as a VW key?
Seat and VW share the same VAG group key system. The physical key blank differs per model, but the programming procedure and tools are identical. If we can programme a VW Golf key, we can programme a Seat Leon key using the same equipment.
Can you replace a Cupra Formentor or Cupra Born key?
Yes. Cupra Formentor uses AES smart key system (same as Leon KL). Cupra Born uses the MEB platform with AES key. Both handled on-site. Cost: £150–£230.
Do you cover older Seat models like the Ibiza 6J and Leon 5F?
Yes. Ibiza 6J (2008–2017) and Leon 5F (2012–2020) use ID48 — standard VAG OBD programming. One of the more straightforward VAG jobs. Cost: £85–£150.
Can you cut a spare Seat Arona key in Leeds?

How long does a Seat key replacement take?

My Seat Ibiza remote key has stopped working — is the key broken?
Usually a flat CR2032 battery. If replacing the battery doesn't restore remote function, the fob may have lost RF sync — we re-sync on-site. If the car also won't start, the transponder needs re-programming to the ECU.
Do you cover Seat Alhambra keys in Leeds?
Yes. Alhambra shares the VW Sharan platform and uses the same VAG ID48/AES key system. Cost: £85–£150 for ID48, £150–£230 for AES depending on model year.
